The staff was very accomodating. They moved our room due to the unbearable noise coming from the communal areas. (A downgraded room with no benefit or refund to me). The location was good, just a short stroll to the beach. The rooms were nice and bright. The place was very very noisy. The pool area was daily filled with small children making a lot of noise as children do. The building design unfortunately causes horrible echos aroung the whole building with little or no respite.
The hotel deserves good rating for its excellent beds and upscale shower facilities, in general the week I spend in the hotel was good. Location for the hotel is reasonably good, beach is in walking distance as well is the street with abundance of restaurants, coffee shop and Spas. Marble mountain and lady Buddha in good distance, approximately 20-30 mins opposite direction from the hotel. I would like to highlight a member of staff Vivian who went above and beyond her duties as a staff member ensuring guests will have a memorable stay at the Salmalia hotel. Vivian is the kindest and most thoughtful travel and hospitality professional I have come across with my many years of travelling. I had some hiccups with one of the trips I had organised with the hotel, Vivian could have not been more helpful and accommodating regarding my predicament. This woman is a jewel amongst the staff I hope that she gets recognised for the kindness she showed to me. The hotel is lucky to have her among the staff. Thanks to Vivian I have nothing but heartfelt memories of Vietnam and it’s kind and generous people. There few occasions where I felt that staff could have dealt with matters better, for example when children were screaming in the pool with as loud parents at 7:30am, the pool however was supposedly closed until 8am, which is more reasonable time to wake up on holiday for those who do want to rest and catch up with long missed sleep. If you do consider renting hotel cars for day trips etc shopping be aware that the driver and possibly also the vehicle will be different from departing the hotel to picking up time heading back. This creates unnecessary tension to the journey that could be avoided if you would be able to recognise the driver and car when heading back from your trip. The drivers in general are extremely professional yet speak very little English and communication can be therefore challenging. Do invest to a Vietnamese SIM card this way you can at least call the hotel if things don’t go as planned. The hotel comes across a boutique aimed for couples, however majority of its guests are families with small children who don’t seems to have much consideration for other guests. Few times I tried to spend time by the pool, yet there were no clean towels left, one family filled the pool with inflatable swimming toys and eventually the noise level became so high I had to leave.
The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were both clean. The staff were responsive and friendly. While the facilities were clean and the staff responsive to questions/requests, the room didn’t quite meet our expectations (smaller than expected, obstructed view, no bathrobes).
