ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PLACE TO STAY AT IN HUE. PERIOD. CLEAN: NO cockroaches, insects, or pests whatsoever. The PRIVATE ROOM was spacious and spotless. BED: Cleanest and comfiest bed I've slept in. Completely spotless, smelled good (but not overwhelming or anything- I have sensitive skin and I was fine). Same for the pillows, spotless, clean, perfection. BATHROOM: The private bathroom attached to the room was a little cramped but that's not really an issue. Bathroom was perfectly clean. SOUND: A little noisey outside, can be heard. Close the bathroom door since it's screened ventilation window allows noise in as well. The hostel itself was silent. Slept like a baby. STAFF: The family that runs the hostel are the nicest most welcoming people I have met in Vietnam. They will by far make you feel at home. They were extremely helpful with us, giving us a map, talking about top attractions, how to get where, the costs of admissions and transportation, transportation options. No sales pushing, just genuinity. They even organized for a bus to take us to Phong Nha and we paid through them. BREAKFAST: Breakfast was basic but good. Fried eggs and omlettes, bread, crepes, etc. NEARBY: The imperial city is a short 15-20 minute walk away. The area around the hostel has various restaurants for Western food (more expensive. Burger, fries, steak, spaghetti, pizza, etc) and Vietnamese food. The place called Burger Shack has quality burgers for around 55-60k and it comes with a free bottle of Pepsi or 7up! (Or upgrade to a beer for 4k) About half the price of the other restaurants. A very tasty hole in the wall. ALL of the TRADITIONAL Hue dishes can be found at these surrounding restaurants too! The two types of banana leaf wrapped tapioca dumplings, the hollow meat skewers with peanut sauce that you turn into fresh rolls, the tapioca dumpling bowls with stuff on top. The only thing we couldn't find nearby was the thick noodle crab soup.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and happy to help with anything. The room was pleasant enough. The double room I had booked had been overbooked and so I was offered a private 4-bed dorm. This was fine for me because I was travelling alone and only needed one bed but still not ideal. Not much of a social vibe compared to others nearby.
